Built in the 15th century, Machu Picchu was abandoned soon after the Spanish Conquest. It lay hidden and largely forgotten until rediscovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham. Today, Machu Picchu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.<\/p>\n
